St. Croix Legend Ultra Fly Rods

Let no one question your profound connection to nature. In the Good Book it talks about man’s “dominion over the fish in the sea.” Fish returning from the sea is certainly implied. For this express purpose we suggest a St. Croix Legend Ultra® fly rod. The Legend Ultra’s award-winning design in high-modulus SCIV graphite with ART™ and IPC® technology is graced with slim-profile ferrules and top-shelf components. These are the rods we completely redesigned and upgraded a couple years ago while keeping the price a welcome reminder of a bygone era. No wonder they are St. Croix’s most popular fly rods.

  • High-modulus/high-strain SCIV graphite.
  • Slim-profile ferrules.
  • Fuji® Alconite stripper guides with chrome frames.
  • Hard chrome, single-foot fly guides on 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 wt. models.
  • Hard chrome snake guides on 6SW, 6/10', 7, 8, 9, 10, 12 wt. models.
  • REC® nickel silver reel seat with a stabilized bird's-eye maple insert on freshwater models.
  • REC® hard-anodized, aluminum reel seat on heavier-line models.
  • Super-grade cork handle.
  • Rugged rod case with handle and divided polypropylene liner.
  • Lifetime limited warranty backed by unmatched St. Croix service.
  • Handcrafted in the U.S.A.

SCIV Graphite

An extraordinary high-performance, high-modulus graphite. Produces extremely lightweight rods with crisp, fast actions and an incredible transfer of power. Also very sensitive. Look for it exclusively in our premium Legend Ultra® and Legend Tournament Bass and Walleye fly rods.

ART

Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART™) is a proprietary St. Croix manufacturing process that adds strength to our rods in critical locations without adding weight or increasing the rod's diameter. By adding a very thin layer of special graphite fibers wrapped around the blank at right angles to the regular longitudinal fibers, ART significantly increases the hoop strength of the blank by preventing it from deforming or "ovaling" under severe a load, such as a powerful hook set.

IPC

n 2000, St. Croix introduced a breakthrough rod-building process known as Integrated Poly Curve® Technology. IPC® allows St. Croix to taper the rod on one continuous curve from tip to butt. This is a profound improvement on the previous process used in creating high-end rods known as compound tapering — which can create weak points in the blank. With IPC technology there are no weak spots — just crisp, clean casts like you've never experienced before. IPC is featured in Legend Elite® and Legend Ultra® fly rods.

Note: the "uneven" wall
thickness on compound-
tapered blank versus
"even" wall thickness on
IPC-Engineered blank.

  • IPC-engineered rods feature smoother actions because the graphite is rolled and compacted onto the rodmaking mandrel in one continuous taper, rather than a series of measured slope changes (as in compound tapering).
  • IPC eliminates all transitional points of weakness on the blank.
  • IPC blanks are stronger because stress is distributed along the entire blank.
  • IPC tapers result in superior graphite fiber alignment along the length of the blank.

This ensures better longitudinal strength because the fiber alignment is never distorted at transition points. It also results in more uniform strength, stiffness and sensitivity along the entire blank shaft for better vibration transmission and enhanced feel.
