Legend Elite® Fly Fishing Rods

Granted the annals of history are littered with accidents of discovery – cornmeal falling on stovetops and voila! Cornflakes. Mold sitting around somewhere and bingo! Penicillin. Nice, but alas, such was not the case with our newly redesigned Legend Elite® fly rods. Actually two new series specifically designed for the most technical situations presented in both freshwater and saltwater fly fishing. Both series are the products of painstaking deliberation and hard work. Lighter, slim-profile ferrules and stunning new cosmetics are meshed with premium, high-modulus, high-strain SCV graphite blanks with carbon-matte scrim and loaded with ART™ and IPC® technologies. Thanks to this bevy of technology you get a four-piece rod that you’ll swear performs like a one-piece. Just the kind of turbo-charged casting machine you need for those situations that demand the finest rod available. The Freshwater series is finished in a sweet Gallatin green, while the Saltwater series, featuring our max-power butt section for handling big fish and even bigger winds, is decked out in Belize blue

SCV Graphite
Our high-modulus/high-strain graphite. The ultimate in high performance. Delivers greater strength without sacrificing fishing performance. Results in fast, quick-loading rods that cast with unbelievable ease and accuracy. Combined with our 100% carbon-matte scrim to create blanks with weights up to 20% lighter than comparative models. Featured in our breakthrough Legend Elite® fly, spinning and casting rods.
ART
Advanced Reinforcing Technology (ART™) is a proprietary St. Croix manufacturing process that adds strength to our rods in critical locations without adding weight or increasing the rod's diameter. By adding a very thin layer of special graphite fibers wrapped around the blank at right angles to the regular longitudinal fibers, ART significantly increases the hoop strength of the blank by preventing it from deforming or "ovaling" under severe a load, such as a powerful hook set.
IPC
In 2000, St. Croix introduced a breakthrough rod-building process known as Integrated Poly Curve® Technology. IPC® allows St. Croix to taper the rod on one continuous curve from tip to butt. This is a profound improvement on the previous process used in creating high-end rods known as compound tapering — which can create weak points in the blank. With IPC technology there are no weak spots — just crisp, clean casts like you've never experienced before. IPC is featured in Legend Elite® and Legend Ultra® fly rods.

- IPC-engineered rods feature smoother actions because the graphite is rolled and compacted onto the rodmaking mandrel in one continuous taper, rather than a series of measured slope changes (as in compound tapering).
- IPC eliminates all transitional points of weakness on the blank.
- IPC blanks are stronger because stress is distributed along the entire blank.
- IPC tapers result in superior graphite fiber alignment along the length of the blank.
This ensures better longitudinal strength because the fiber alignment is never distorted at transition points. It also results in more uniform strength, stiffness and sensitivity along the entire blank shaft for better vibration transmission and enhanced feel. |
