Craig Mercantile Deli
When the Bulington Northern Railroad found its way to Craig in 1898, a new business arose and helped serve the Missouri River Canyon residents' needs - Craig Mercantile Company. Located in the hub of the canyon, the store provided a wide variety of products and services. Everything from groceries to Peter Schuttler Covered Wagons were sold out of the store. Originally, Craig Mercantile Company was located at Lot 1 Block 1 Craig, Montana (today's Trout Shop Lodge). Now, Craig Mercantile is located just inside The Trout Shop's doors two blocks to the west.
Times have changed since the store's beginnings. Burlington Northern seldom moves its trains through the Missouri River Canyon. But, Craig Mercantile lives on. Today, Craig Mercantile provides fresh deli sandwiches and other general river provisions. From homemade cookies to sunblock to a cold six pack of beer, you'll find just what you need for your river outing. Sample some Starbucks coffee or pick up your flies for the day. Arrange a shuttle, pick up your lunch; your only one step away from the river. Your boat launch or wading spot is just minutes away.
Time is a virtue. We know that you want to be on the river from the moment you turn off the Interstate 15's Craig Exit. You can taste the river from there. It's only two blocks to the east.
The first stop in town is The Trout Shop. Take your first right or look for the lot with an uncanny amount of drift boats. Come on in. Our services and products will help you get on and off the river easily.
