Casting is the most fundamental skill to master in fly fishing. However,
it is often the biggest stumbling block for beginning fly fishers, and
the skill that most experts would like to improve upon. So often, the
success or failure of a fishing trip depends on the ability to cast
a fly 100 yards under poor conditions with perfect presentation.
Lefty Kreh has taught some of the world's most well-regarded casters
how to refine their casting to full mastery. In Advanced Fly Casting,
he is at the top of his casting and teaching form as he analyzes every
movement in the series of events that comprise a fly-casting sequence
and demonstrates why certain methods work, and others don't, such as:
- How to stand, hold the rod, and move the wrist and elbow throughout
the entire cast
- Reduce the number of false casts to a minimum
- Identify problem areas and master them
- Do exercises to tighten your loop and increase line speed
Lefty has correctly diagnosed dozens of fly-casting sins and described
their remedies. In Advanced Fly Casting, anglers can verify Lefty's
advice with simple examples, as he describes the causes of their casting
problems, and remedies, with uncanny accuracy. Intermediate and advanced
casters learn-or relearn-how to cast naturally and effortlessly, from
