Handcrafting a Graphite Fly Rod
by L.A.
Garcia
L. A. Garcia resides in Lakewood, Colorado. He fly fished for two years
before attempting to build his first fly rod in 1974. While the early
rods were of fiberglass, he readily made the transition to graphite.
He has built over 1200 rods which are widely distributed. Several of
his rods are in Alaska. But they can also be found in Canada, Spain,
Italy, Germany, Mexico, Texas, California, Missouri, New Mexico, Wyoming,
Montana, Colorado, Oregon, Maine, Arizona and Washington.
He has been generous in his donations to such organizations as Trout
Unlimited and The Federation of Fly Fishers. He donated a rod for TU's
25th Anniversary. In 1991 he donated a rod to FFF for its conclave in
West Yellowstone, Montana in memory of Bing Lempke. In 1992 he donated
a rod for FFF for its conclave in Calgary, Alberta, Canada in memory
of Charlie Brooks. He built one of Charlie's favorite rods. In 1993
he donated a rod to FFF in memory of Lee Wulff. The choice of rod was
made by Joan Wulff.
