FYI. We’ll see the river drop about 400 cfs for a month. The water supply looks bleak above Canyon Ferry at this point and BOR doesn’t want to spill water. Grant and Brad (his new fish tech) will try to get an idea of any dewatered brown trout redds to see if we will see any impacts from this operation change/maintenance.

Canyon Ferry Water Release Order - CFR No. 10-08

CURRENT RESERVOIR CONDITIONS:

Elevation: 3787.41; Storage: 1,581,525 acre-feet; River Release: 4,030 cfs; Inflow: 3,715 cfs;

GENERAL COMMENTS:

The actual turbine discharge capacity through 2-units is currently about 3,650 cfs. Therefore, Water Release Order CFR No. 10-07 is hereby revised as follows. During February 22-March 18, a 25-day maintenance outage is scheduled on Unit #3 of the Canyon Ferry powerplant to allow for triennial maintenance. In response, the following operation change is required at Canyon Ferry Dam and Powerplant, restricting and limiting turbine releases to 2-unit capacity during the scheduled maintenance.

CANYON FERRY RELEASES AND OPERATIONS:

All times are Mountain Standard Time (MST)

Beginning 0700 hour, Monday, February 22 through 1700 hour, Thursday, March 18, 2010:

Maintain releases through the river outlet gates at 0 cfs.

Maintain releases through the spillway gates at 0 cfs.

Maintain turbine releases at 3,650 cfs (

Maintain releases for Helena Valley Project at 0 cfs.

Maintain average daily release to the Missouri River at about 3,650 cfs.

Maintain average total release from Canyon Ferry at about 3,650 cfs.

887 MW-Hrs/day using 98.8 cfs/mw).

Special Note: During the scheduled maintenance outage, the total turbine discharge capacity will be limited to 2-unit capacity.
